Our club is dedicated to serving the community by addressing key areas of need.

Hermanus Animal Welfare Society (HAWS)

Mandela Day. A fun and interesting morning @ Haws (Hermanus Animal Welfare Society) packing dog food that the Rotary Club of Hermanus had donated! A great turnout of volunteers, HAW’s employees and Rotarians having a great morning working hard and all received a surprise reward of coffee and delicious eats. Thank you for all the donations and support for the Nibbles Community Project that helps to keep the doggies in the community well fed at affordable prices. Further large donations for infrastructure projects   In addition, 35 blankets were purchased and delivered to HAWS.

Sports Marshalling

Race2Hermanus Marshalling Our club did the marshalling for the Race2Hermanus triathlon.  We earned R25k for our projects and have been invited to play a bigger role in the event in 2026. We also provide marshalling services to local sports events, like: Wine 2 Whales Hermanus Triathlon Race 2 Hermanus Dirty South Gravel Race Brewery to Brewery

Rotary Youth – Interact (High School junior Rotarians)

Supporting New Moms and Babies – Mother’s day The Hermanus High School Interactors organised and distributed 28 gift parcels including baby wipes, diapers, a toy and clothing. They supplied Hermanus Mediclinic and Hermanus Provincial Hospital. This was to honour the Mom’s and Babies in hospital over Mothers Day.

Annual Toy Run

The Annual Toy Run took place at the end of November, organised by our sister Rotary club of Stanford. We received a generous allocation of the toys, which our Rotaractors helped distribute to various ECDs round the town.

Miscellaneous

Supporting a Dedicated Entrepreneur Providing Replacement Tools to a Deserving Individual, Quentin Witbooi recently received replacement tools after his were stolen in an unfortunate incident. As a skilled builder, Quentin was the trusted choice for the HAWS extension and the Bargain Box upgrade. In addition to his professional work, he generously contributed his expertise and labour to creating the stage backdrop for the Christmas Pageant at both venues. The replacement tools were made possible through a grant from the Hermanus Rotary NPC, an independent division of the Rotary Club of Hermanus that reports to the RCH board.

Bargain Box Charity Shop

The Bargain Box is run by volunteers from the Rotary Club and the community.  It is open 6 days a week throughout the year. The clothing and other bric-a-brac is donated by the public and good quality clothing at affordable prices, is sold.   All income generated in the shop goes back into the local community of Hermanus helping with many community projects that are supported due to the success of the “Bargain Box”. If you are moving house, down sizing or just having a sort out of your cupboards etc., we are always very appreciative to receive donations of your unwanted good quality adult, children’s clothing, puzzles, toys, bed linen, curtains, cushions, household items of china, glass, kitchen gadgets and small electrical items. The Rotary Club of Hermanus is involved with The Santa Shoe Box Project, collecting and distributing personalised gifts of essential items and treats to children in need.

Rotary Way Drive

On Mandela Day Rotarians went to repaint the symbol at the top of the drive.Rotary Way is a beautiful scenic drive up the mountain, as you enter Hermanus, just after Mount Pleasant. This road was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Hermanus in 1960 when the late Bill Le Bamow suggested it, and with the help of Cyril Gillespie and various members, the road was built by the Caledon Divisional Council and tarred a year later.

ROTARY Annual Conference – Mosselbay 2024 Some of our Rotary Club of Hermanus team managed to get time out and attend the Annual Discon conference and had an awesome time meeting other Rotarians. They have returned feeling fully charged up and more inspired to go out and find ways to serve our community.   SA National Space Agency What an incredibly informative morning! A very respectful thank you to the 3 Engineers who took time out from their day to share with us the important roles that they have working at SANSA.. All very thankful we didn’t have a test at the end of that session.        Christmas in July Party Gift of soup mixes donated to the Soup Kitchens What a great time of fun, celebrating Christmas in July. Most importantly Christmas  is a time for giving. This year we all bought soup mix packets and fresh vegetables which
