Our club is dedicated to serving the community by addressing key areas of need.

Vision Project

Ferdi Marais Community Vision Project.  A 3-Phase Project roll-out, working in partnership with the Eye Clinic at Hermanus Provincial Hospital to meet some of the vision needs of our greater Hermanus community. Handover of 194 pairs of readers valued at approx. R17,500 Completion of 60 Cataract operations, costing R156,000 Rotarians will be assisting the eye clinic with the running of community screening days within 2025 Further Cataract operations being planned   This ambitious vision project is in honour of the late Ferdi Marais, a highly respected Rotarian dedicated to health.

Early Childhood Development (ECD) Project

Assisting with the desperate need in the preschool space in the Overstrand/Hermanus area. Our 3 Phase objectives: Assisting unregistered ECDs to acquire registration Assisting with structural fixes to acquire registration to 7 ECD’s in Zwelihle, Hawston and Mount Pleasant Collaboration with the municipality to possibly construct a new ECD Centre Registration Compliance Assistance The partnership of Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages(CCPB) / Rotary Club of Newlands(RCN) / Rotary Club of Hermanus(RCH) / Enlighten Education Trust A small team from CCPB, the RCN and RCH, together with the Enlighten Education Trust visited four ECDs in Zwelihle and three in Hawston to handover critical items required for compliance with the WCED. The seven facilities look after 225 children, and items donated included mattresses, first-aid kits, signage for the centres, and fire-safety equipment. Learn to read

Trent Bridge Nottingham Donation We received a grant from our Presidents club of Trent Bridge Nottingham for the “Siyafunda Learn to Read” Project at the catholic Church in Zwehihle, Hermanus.  We were able to provide the lockable bookcases, books (in 3 languages), furniture and an overhead projector to enable the teachers to teach the children to read and speak English. This Learn to Read project involves providing mobile story corners in a Church building where volunteers read weekly to children in the community.

Knitting for Love

Our Knitting for Love Ladies provide a never-ending supply of knitted blessings What a great reason to be indoors on a cold and wet day. Coffee and cake whilst celebrating the successful Knitting for Love Rotary Project at Golden Harvest. These awesome ladies have been busy making all these wonderful jerseys and cute teddies!A lot of very happy people that were blessed with their love.   Hermanus Provincial Hospital Maternity Ward Gifts Such a pleasure gifting some baby clothes, blankets & sheets to assist mothers and their babies who have limited means. A special thank you to “Knitting for Love Ladies” for all your dedication and knitting such beautiful gifts. Pebbles Skills Development Centre

The Rotary Club of Hermanus is devoted to skilling up our young adults. A Skills Development training centre was constructed in the Hemel & Aarde Valley. Redevelopment of an old Barn on a farm in the Hemel & Aarde Valley.  Developed into 2 classrooms to be used for teaching students who are unlikely to finish High School or be able to enter tertiary education. Soft skills such as CV writing, presentation of themselves in an interview, budgeting, career guidance, computer skills, life skills, catering skills, etc… All of the graduates have acquired paid employment after their Skills Training year

Music Memories We visit various Old Age Homes for a sing along to encourage the folks in Frail Care. Chatting to and singing along with some of the folks in Frail Care at Onrus Manor, and then finished off with a treat of tea and delicious eats.

Recycle Swap Shop

The Recycle Swap Shop in Zwelihle makes a difference to between 100 – 150 children daily as they are encouraged to clean up the community and bring plastic, glass and tins for recycling to the shop to be weighed for reward.We were able to help in a small way and delivered 30 tennis balls and 64 toy cars to be used in their shop and a whole lot of easter eggs as a special treat. The young leaders also make sandwiches to give to all the children coming to do recycling. How great is it that children are being rewarded for their recycling efforts….so encouraging!

A long-standing partnership Camphill Village / Farm Is an adult residential facility where people with intellectual disabilities enjoy quality of life and meaningful work.  Their activities include, Farming, Poultry, Estate Gardening, Crafts and Herb Cultivation.

Mentoring young entrepreneurs New entrepreneurs face local “Dragon’s Den” Rotary Club of Hermanus and Grootbos Foundation receive business plan presentation pitches from new local micro-business owners and select which businesses will get seed funding and recycle swap gonna be good for all of us to go look if we got a new right here and it just take them to this page I know that I know that we actually have something but probably the next step I’m never ever on Facebook anymore so I think the majority of people are going okay so just have it it’s it’s just that so different looking feel 12 months of mentorship.

Soup Kitchen

Mount Pleasant Soup Kitchen Maria-Anita Pieterse is a wonder Angel to the people in her community. She feeds over 200 people a day at her Soup Kitchen which she cooked in her bedroom with a 2 plate gas hob. With the help of advertising her wonderful work she has now been able to upgrade her facility to a proper outside room where she can cook and people can come in out of the bad weather to get their food. We donated Soup ingredients from our Christmas in July party and are now also able to assist her on a monthly basis from our Bargain Box Funds.

The Alec Hogg fundraiser was to assist local young soccer players to purchase boots and training equipment who do not currently have access to proper soccer equipment. “U13 Rotary Super Eagles 3 Hermanus All Stars” – are in need of any pre-loved soccer boots, balls, training items like cones etc.
